Moxy Belfast’s £8M Makeover Radiates Check-in & Chill-out Energy

Belfast just got a serious upgrade in cool. The brand-new Moxy Belfast City — the first of its kind in Northern Ireland — has flung open its doors on Clarence Street West, and I couldn’t resist checking in (literally) at the bar. Yes, that’s how Moxy rolls. A welcome pint of Guinness in hand, I was already vibing with the energy — cheeky, modern, and unmistakably Belfast.

After a quick cheers to my own good taste, I dropped my bags in one of the 179 freshly redesigned rooms. Think sleek lines, bold colour pops, and just enough attitude to make you feel like you’re part of something a little rebellious. It’s not just a stay — it’s a mood.

Come morning, I swapped stout for caffeine and ordered an Irish coffee (because balance is important, right?). The lobby was buzzing — locals, travellers, laptops, and laughter all sharing the same open space. Moxy’s “plug and play” vibe is real; you can sip, snack, and socialise without missing a beat.

A post-breakfast wander took me to some of Belfast’s best-kept secrets — City Hall, the Cathedral Quarter, and a few local gems only a stroll away. It’s clear Moxy picked its spot well: right in the middle of the action but with that low-key charm Belfast does so well.

Behind the scenes, Moxy Belfast City is a big deal — Moxy’s 100th hotel in the EMEA region, a full £8 million makeover, and the result of a serious local collaboration by MHL Hotel Collection, Todd’s Architects, and Grant Fit Out. But on the surface? It’s all play, no pretence.

If you like your hotels with a heartbeat, your check-ins with a drink, and your mornings with a kick (of whiskey), then Moxy Belfast City is your kind of stay. Here’s to fun, flair, and a touch of Belfast boldness.
